In der Bildergalerie könnt Ihr Fotos von mir, meinem Freund Jochen Schlüter und unserer Gruppe Costumi in Kostümphantasien sehen, inspiriert von der Kunst und der Mode des Barock und Rokoko. Der Schwerpunkt bei meiner Gestaltung liegt weniger bei der historischen Authentizität der Stücke, sondern bei der Neuinterpretation und eigener Phantasie. Zu einem kleinen Teil habe ich alte Theaterkostüme grundlegend umgearbeitet. Auch Fundstücke vom Flohmarkt oder dem Internet fließen in die Gesamtgestaltung mit ein. Hauptsächlich fertige ich aber neu an - nach historischen Originalschnittmustern oder frei improvisiert.
2009 habe ich zusammen mit einer ebenfalls Kostümbegeisterten, die wir in Venedig kennengelernt haben, eine Kostümfantasie zum Thema Asienmode/Chinoiserie im 18. Jahrhundert mit dem Titel "Die Reisen des Marco Polo" umgesetzt, mit der wir beim internationalen Wettbewerb um das schönste Kostüm "La Maschera più bella" den ersten Platz für uns entscheiden konnten. Sechs der acht Gewinnerkostüme habe ich gestaltet, siehe Foto oben: das zweite und vierte von links sowie die vier anderen auf der rechten Seite.
Besonderen Anklang fanden die Kreationen bei der Vorsitzenden der Jury zur Wahl des Schönsten Kostümes 2009, Kostümbildnerin Gabriella Pescucci, die für ihre Leistung für die Hollywoodproduktion "Zeit der Unschuld" mit einem Oscar ausgezeichnet wurde. Weitere Jurymitglieder waren der künstlerische Leiter des Carnevale di Venezia, Marco Balich, sowie der mehrfach Oscar nominierte Kostümmeister Stefano Nicolao, der u. a. für „Elisabeth“, „Der Kaufmann von Venedig“ und „Farinelli“ Kostüme anfertigte.
Auch 2010 gab uns die Jury ein einstimmiges Votum: dreimal grün! Schließlich waren wir unter den letzten Finalisten, aus denen der Gewinner aus England ermittelt wurde. Nach der Prämierung teilte uns Herr Nicolao mit, dass die Jury uns natürlich als Gewinner des Vorjahres erkannt hätte. Voller Anerkennung für meine diesjährigen Kostüme bedankte und verabschiedete er sich persönlich bei jedem von uns. Auch in Zukunft werde ich meinem Stil treu bleiben und mich und meine Werke in Venedig zeigen. Getreu nach dem Motto: Bei allem, was du tust, bleib immer du selbst!!!
2011 waren wir erneut im Finale mit "La famille Fabergé", angelehnt an die Juweleneier der russischen Zaren. Insgesamt hatte ich damals über 20.000 Schmucksteine und hunderte von Pfauenfedern für eine 4-köpfige Gruppe verarbeitet. Zu diesem Wettbewerb traten wir zu dritt auf. Da wir mit diesen Kostümen schon 2010 im Finale waren, wollten wir eigentlich nur spasseshalber an der Vorauswahl teilnehmen und freuten uns darüber wieder dabei zu können, obwohl wir von offizieller Seite wiedererkannt wurden. Die Jury aber wollte mehr von uns und zeichnete uns zu unserer Überraschung einstimmig mit dem ersten Platz für das schönste Kostüm aus! Die Auszeichnung teilen wir uns gleichwertig mit einer Gruppe aus Rom. die eine Hommage an Venedig darstellt.
2012 traten wir mit einem neuen Ensemble an: "Teatime". Angelehnt an die Mode des späten 18. Jahrhunderts, die stark von England beinflusst war, bestückte ich die Kostüme mit Teekannen, Tassen und Tellern, bis hin zu einer komplett gedeckten wandelnden Tafel, die mit Silber und Petits Fours geschmückt war. Auch der im 18. Jahrhundert in England entwickelte Cutsteel-Schmuck, oder Stahlbrillant-Schmuck, fand reichlich Verwendung. Bei zwei Kostümen hatte ich sogar den kompletten Stoff von Hand nachcoloriert. Die Mühe meiner jahrelangen Recherche, des Sammelns von Accessoires und der Anfertigung der Kostüme wurde schließlich mit der erneuten Auszeichnung des 1. Preises für das Schönste Kostüm belohnt!!!
2013 fertigte ich ein Einzelkostüm: "Shakespeare TV, the first colour TV of the world". Die Maske war zugleich Kopfteil, das hauptsächlich aus einem transformierten Papiertheater bestand, als Frisur wurden Papprollen von Klopapierrollen verwendet, die ich ein ganzes Jahr gesammelt hatte. In seiner Gesamterscheinung wirkte das Kopfteil auch wie ein Fernseher, daher "TV". Portaits von Diego Velazques dienten als Inspirationsquelle für das Kleid, Reproduktionen von Bühnenbildern und die Figuren aus Shakespeares Stücken fanden dort ebenso Verwendung . Unsere liebe Freundin Patris Angel, Farinelli-Sängerin und Shakespeare-Fan, war die perfekte Trägerin für dieses Kostüm und führte es in das Finale für die Wahl des schönsten Kostümes.
2014 geschah das unglaubliche: Passend zu unserem 10-jährigen Karnevalsjubiläum zeichnete die Jury meine Arbeit zum 4. Mal mit dem 1. Preis aus! Meine Gruppe "una giornata in campagna"- ein Tag auf dem Lande- passte perfekt zum Thema des Karnevals "la natura fantastica". Eigentlich sollte es 2 verschiedene Gewinnerkategorien geben, schönstes Kostüm und bestes Kostüm zum Thema. Wir deckten beides ab, und so fasste die Jury kurzentschlossen beide Kategorien zusammen und vergab den 1. Platz auch gleichwertig an zwei Gewinner: uns und eine italienische Künstlerin, die ein individuelles "Baumkostüm" umgesetzt hatte. Meine Kostüme waren wieder sehr detailreich, es würde zu weit führen, alles aufzuzählen. Auch wurde bis auf die letzte Minute an den Kostümen gearbeitet, selbst in Venedig war ich noch damit beschäftigt. Tiermasken, kleine Tierszenen , florale Stoffe in den Farben des Sommers und allerlei Naturmaterialien setzten sich zu einem Bild meiner Kindheit auf dem Lande zusammen. Mit großer Begeisterung -selbst von der Jury gab es standing ovations- gingen wir wieder einmal als Sieger aus dem Wettbewerb hervor. Es ist schön, zu sehen, das sich all die viele Arbeit wieder gelohnt hat und mein Werk so positiv in Venedig angenommen wird, auch wenn ich kein gebürtiger Venezianer bin. Es ist nicht wichtig, woher man kommt, es zählt, wer man ist. Im Kostüm, im Karneval von Venedig bin ich : ein Venezianer! MILLE GRAZIE, VENEZIA !!!
Aller guten Dinge sind fünf! Eigentlich war an eine erneute Prämierung nicht zu denken, aber genau das geschah. 2015 habe ich ein Trio unter dem Namen "Marte, Venere e Cupido - Le stelle dell 'amore", Mars Venus und Cupido - die Sterne der Liebe" kreiert. Das ungleiche Liebespaar Venus, Göttin der Schönheit und Liebe und Mars, Gott des Krieges, sowie ihr gemeinsamer Sohn Cupido, als Liebespfeil abschiessender Liebesbote, habe ich in einer Mischung aus Modezitaten des 18. Jahrhunderts, Opernkostümen des Barock und Fantasieelementen gestaltet. Zusätzlich erschuf ich die Gruppe zum Thema Fächer. So sind z.B. der Helm des Mars, sein Schild, das Kleid der Venus oder die schmetterlingartigen Flügel des Cupido aus Fächern gearbeitet, die sich thematisch auf Mars, Venus und Cupido beziehen. Der Rock der Venus ist rundum komplett mit Stoff bezogenen Fächern versehen, ihr Schirm in Form drei aneinandergelegter Fächer gestaltet. Da sich die Gruppe ebenfalls auf das Thema Planeten bezieht, hat die Venus zusätzlich ein "ausserirdisches" Aussehen erhalten. In dieser Art und Weise hatte bislang niemand dieses Thema umgesetzt. So konnten wir als glückliche, erneute Sieger für das schönste Kostüm 2015 eine aufwendig gestaltete Muranoglasschale als Siegestrophäe entgegennehmen. Die Jury hatte uns wiedererkannt und sagte uns: "Ihr macht jedes Jahr immer wieder etwas komplett anderes, neues, und habt eine so gute Qualität, wir kommen einfach nicht drum herum, euch wieder den ersten Preis zu geben. Ihr seid einfach over the top !" Was will man mehr? Liebe Freunde, alles ist möglich, solange man an sich und seine Sache glaubt und alles gibt!!!
Nach
4-jähriger Pause nahmen wir 2019 erneut am Wettbewerb teil - und waren wieder
erfolgreich !!! Zwei Wochen vor Beginn des Karnevals gaben die Veranstalter das
offizielle Thema bekannt: „Tutta colpa della luna - Schuld war nur der Mond“.
Mein Trio „I bambini della luce - Die Kinder des Lichts“, bestehend aus
Apollonio - der Sonnenphoenix, Lunaria - Mond/Königin der Nacht und „La Cometa
dell‘ Arte“, passten perfekt ins Thema. Inspiration war eine Ausstellung, die
ich 10 Jahre zuvor in Versailles besucht habe: „Fastes de cour“. Ausgestellt
waren königliche Hofroben aus dem 17. und 18. Jahrhundert aus ganz Europa, die
zum Teil aus silbernen Fäden gewebt waren. Aus einer handgewebten, metallischen
Seide fertigte ich das Sonnenkostüm. Auch das Kleid des Mondes war angelehnt an
die Gestaltung einer königlichen Hochzeitsrobe. Der Komet der Kunst entstand
aus zwei alten Brokatkleidern unserer Großmütter, im Stil eines Weißclowns.
Masken und auch den Helm des Kometen modellierte ich aus Papiermaschee, im Stil
eines Meteoriten. Vergoldet und farblich gefasst erhielt er zudem einen
Kometenschweif aus einer Glasfaserlampe. Beleuchtungskörper aller Art fanden
sich in Accessoires wie auch den Kostümen selbst wieder, um dem Titel des Trios
Rechnung zu tragen. Angestrebt war ein
erneutes Teilnehmen am Finale des Wettbewerbes, aber mit mehr habe ich nicht
gerechnet. Am Ende habe ich wieder alles erreicht und wurde mit dem ersten Preis
für die schönsten Kostüme zum offiziellen Thema ausgezeichnet. Überreicht wurde
uns ein kunstvoller Muranoglaspokal mit den Worten:“ Danke im Namen der Stadt Venedig“.
Mehr Ehre geht nicht - das ist nicht mehr zu toppen. Trotzdem ist meine kreative
Arbeit noch nicht am Ende: neue Ideen und Materialien warten auf ihre Umsetzung,
doch das braucht Zeit. 2020 werde ich nicht am Wettbewerb teilnehmen.
An dieser Stelle möchte ich allen danken, die über die Jahre an mich und meine Kreativität geglaubt haben. Ich wäre ohne Euch nie soweit gekommen!!!
~~~ Welcome once more to the costume-site of Horst Raack! ~~~
In the picture gallery you can see photos of me, my friend Jochen Schluter and our group Costumi in costume fantasies inspired by the art and fashion of the Baroque and Rococo. The focus of my design is less in the historical authenticity of the pieces but in my own imagination and interpretation. To a small extent, I have profoundly remodelled old theater costumes. Also, finds from the flea market or the Internet are being used for the overall design concept. All of my new costumes are based on historical patterns or freely improvised.
In 2009, a costume fantasy about the Asian fashion/Chinoiserie in the 18th Century, entitled "The Travels of Marco Polo", was implemented along with another costume enthusiast we have met in Venice. With this piece of Art we won the first Prize in the international competition for the best costume "La Maschera più bella"! Six of the eight awarded costumes have been designed by me (see photo above: the second and fourth from the left and the other four on the right side).
Costume maker Gabriella Pesucci, who was at the head of the jury to select the most beautiful costume of 2009, was especially appealed by these creations. She has received an Oscar for her costume designs in the Hollywood production "The Age of Innocence". Other members of the jury were the artistic director of the Carnevale di Venezia, Marco Balich, as well as the repeatedly Oscar-nominated costume maker Stefano Nicolao, who created costumes for movies such as "Elizabeth", "The Merchant of Venice" and "Farinelli". .
In the year 2010, again we received an unanimous vote: green three times! Eventually, we were among the ultimate finalists, from which the winner from England was determined. Mr. Nicolao approached us to tell us that the jury had, of course, recognized us as the winners of last year. He was full of appreciation for my costumes and thanked each and everyone personally for our participation. In the future I will remain faithful to my style and show me and my works in Venice. True to the motto: In everything you do, always stay yourself!
We were again in the final in 2011 with "La famille Fabergé" which was inspired by the famous jeweled Russian eggs. Overall, I have used over 20,000 precious stones and hundreds of peacock feathers for a group of four. But we presented only three costumes in Venice this time. We only wanted to take part in the preselection just for fun as we have already shown this creation back in 2010. The jury however voted for us concordantly and we therefore won the first Prize for the best costume once again! We equally share this prize with a group from Rome, their costumes formed a tribute to Venice.
2012, we competed with a new ensemble called "Teatime". Inspired by the fashion of the late 18th Century, which was influenced by England, I applied teapots, cups and plates for the costumes, and made a walking table decorated with silver and petits fours. Cutsteel jewelry developed in England in the 18th Century found plenty of use. I even recoloured the entire fabric for two costumes by hand. The effort of my many years of research, the collection of accessories and the making of the costumes was finally rewarded by receiving the first Prize for the most beautiful costume!This way, I have not only been awarded for a third time but also made one of the world's largest collections of award-winning costumes of the Venetian carnival.
2013, I created a single costume called "Shakespeare TV, the first colour TV of the world". The headpiece and mask, made of a paper theatre, was also in the shape of an old TV. Portraits of Diego Velazques as an inspiration for the shape of the dress, reprints of antique stage decorations and Shakespeares stage characters were also used. Our dear friend Patris Angel, Farinelli singer and Shakespeare fan, worn this dress in the grand final for the competition for the best costume.
2014, the unbelievable happened: Again, I won the 1. prize with my costume group "una giornata in campagna"- a day at the country. It was the year of our 10. carnival at Venice, so it really was a perfect gift for us. There were 2 winning categories: best costume and best costume for the theme"la natura fantastica". The jury gave us the first prize for both categories, also to an italian artist with a "tree" costume. I made 18th century style costumes with animal masks, little animal scenes, used floral fabrics , natural materials from our garden, to create a picture of my childhood at the country. The people on the square, and especially the jury, loved my work: they gave us standing ovations!!! Well, it's good to see all this positive reactions, even I'm not an italian. I don't think, it's important where you came from, it's important who you are. In costume at the carnival of Venice, I am: a venetian !!! MILLE GRAZIE VENEZIA !!!!
After getting the first prize for 4 times, it wasn't possible to think about receiving the award again. Impossible? I can't believe it, but exactly that happened! Our 5th award for "la maschera piu bella" was for my new group" Mars,Venus and Cupid - the stars of love". Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, her lover Mars, god of War and their son Cupid, who is bringing love into the hearts of people by shooting arrows, were also decorated with fans showing Mars, Venus and Cupid. The costumes were a mixture of 18th century fashion, baroque costumes for opera and my own fantasy. This theme has never been created like this before, so the jury was sure, that we had deserved to get the first prize again. They told us that we always create something different with high quality and we are just "over the top". I'm very happy that these people understood and valued my work. Our "trophy" in 2015 was a beautiful glas plate handmade in Murano. Dear friends, I can't tell you how I feel . Always believe in yourself, and what you do. There will be people who value you!!!
After a four-year break, we participated 2019 again in
the contest - and won!!! Two weeks before the Carnival in Venice
startet, the official theme was published: "Tutta colpa della luna -
Blame the moon ". The title of my group was "I bambini della luce - The
children of light". Apollonio - the sunphoenix, Lunaria - the moon/queen
of n(l)ight, and La Cometa dell'Arte, fitted perfectly well to the
official theme. Inspiration for the design was an exhibition 10 years
ago, at the Chateau de Versailles: "Fastes de cour". From allover
Europe, royal dresses from the 17th and 18th century were shown,
especially those made of silver threads. For my sun costume, I used a
handwoven metallic silk. Also, the court dress of the moon was in the
style of a royal wedding gown. The comet was made from two old brocade
gowns of our grandmas, designed in the style of a white clown. The masks
were made of paper-mâché, also the helmet of the comet - in the style
of a meteor. Gilded and painted, it got a glas fibre lamp inside. Not
only the accessories, also the costumes themselves have got illumination
everywhere, so that they match the theme of the children of light. My
wish was to enter the final of the competition, to proudly present my
new work to the jury. I didn't expected more - but at last, I received
everything: I got the first prize for best costumes to the theme, a
Murano glass artwork, with the words "Thank you, in the name of the city
of Venice". Wow - what can you get more! It's hard to top that!!! My
creativity still is growing, I have new ideas, a lot of material....but I
will need time to create something new - we will not take part at the
competition in 2020.
At this point, I would like to thank everyone who has believed in me and my creativity over all the years. I would never have come this far without you!
